The Philippines’ leading fast-food chain, Jollibee, honored a new batch of outstanding Filipino families who made a difference in other’s lives in the 3rd Jollibee Family Values Awards. The Gabi ng Parangal para sa Pamilyang Pilipino, held at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Ortigas, Pasig City, culminated the two-month search that garnered more than 1,400 nominations from across the country and in other parts of the world.
Hailed as this year’s most exemplary families were: the Rayo family of Sta. Ana, Manila, who are involved in advocacies centered on children’s education; the Bernardo family of Camarines Norte, who advocate the rights of people with disability; the Supanga family of Camarines Sur, whose various projects benefit underprivileged kids and the environment; the Elio family of Antique, who bring the gift of healing to the poor and the sick in their home province; and the Lim family of Zamboanga City, who co-founded the Yellow Boat Foundation and whose advocacies bring hope to impoverished children.
The Duque family of London, United Kingdom was also chosen as the first recipient of the Jollibee Coca-Cola Global Pinoy Family of the Year award for their remarkable commitment to help their fellow Filipinos overseas.
The judges also decided to bestow a special citation for the Carmona family, many of whose members are based in Spain, Bahrain and the United States. Despite the distance, the family works together to make a positive difference and help their needy kababayans in their hometown, Oriental Mindoro.
The five winning families from the Philippines and the recipient of the Global Pinoy Family award each received a cash prize of P100,000 tax-free, a trophy designed by renowned brass sculptor Michael Cacnio, a 32” Sony Bravia LED TV, and Jollibee gift certificates and Jollibee Padala Vouchers. The recipient of the special citation took home a special plaque of recognition, P35,000 in cash, and Jollibee Padala vouchers worth P5,000.
“Year after year, we continue to be moved and humbled by countless Filipino families who are united in making life better for their fellowmen,” said Jollibee Philippines President Joseph C. Tanbuntiong. “I am hopeful and confident that more remarkable Filipino families will continue to inspire us with their advocacies that preserve the Filipino values dearest to all of us.”
Adding a more festive feel to the 3rd JFVA Gabi ng Parangal celebration were Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla and her equally talented daughter Karylle, who regaled the audience with an amazing musical performance. Pop stars Juris Fernandez and Kris Lawrence also took guests to a memorable trip back to Jollibee’s 35 l years with the Filipino family as they sang the fast-food chain’s iconic jingles and showed its popular TV commercials, including “Ligaw” and “I Love You Sabado.”
To end the awarding on a high note, the celebrity singers, along with the Broadway Babies and Whiplash dancers, performed “Buhay Pamilya,” Jollibee’s 35th anniversary theme.
This year’s Board of Judges was co-chaired by Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman and Jollibee Group Foundation President Grace Tan Caktiong. They were joined by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Head Carmelita Dimzon; Jollibee Vice President for Marketing Harvey Ong; Jollibee Foods Corporation Country HR Head Theresa Jotie; ABS-CBN Chaplain and Chair of the Management Committee for Public Service Integration Fr. Tito Caluag, S.J.; broadcast journalist Karen Davila; parenting and relationship consultant Maribel Sison-Dionisio; inspirational speaker and corporate trainer Francis Kong; TV host Christine Jacob-Sandejas; and Coca-Cola Export Corporation’s Director for Public Affairs and Communications Atty. Adel Tamano.
